The boys from the Shelby county metropolis were outclassed yesterday afternoon by the football artists of P.H.S. The visitors never had a look in and were almost constantly playing on the defensive.

A crowd of fair proportions saw the game at Athletic Field. Quite a bunch came down from Sidney to see the game but they had no chance to do any vocal stunts whereby their presence on the sidelines could be noticed. There was a fair amount of cheering done by the Piquads, however, and the game lacked none of the usual entertaining features in this line.

Piqua won the toss and took the south goal. On the kickoff the oval was driven to the visitors twenty five yard line. Sidney fumbled the ball and Munger got the ball. P.H.S. advanced it to the visitor’s ten yard line and the next thing Chamberlin carried it over for a touchdown, the play being a fake buck and a quarterback run. Chamberlin failed to kick goal. This made the score P.H.S. 5, Sidney 0. The touchdown was made in less than four minutes of play.

It was Piqua’s game from this on. The S.H.S. boys were able to do nothing. They could not put up even a good defense. They tried nothing but straight football, which was like the primer to the Piqua high school lads.

On the other hand Piqua worked the forward pass repeatedly and with precision. There was hardly a time that they failed to advance the leather every time they tried it.

P.H.S. crossed Sidney’s goal line three times during the half. Chamberlin was able to plant the oval between the posts but once during the half making the score for the half 16 to 0.

Right at the start of the second half came the most spectacular play of the game. Sidney drove the leather deep into our territory. Chamberlin caught it and started down the field. Following his interference down the field he went, doubling, twisting in and out, shaking off Sidney’s tackle until he had a clear field for the enemy’s goal line. A miss rewarded the try for goal, making the score P.H.S. 21, Sidney 0.

This proved to be the only score made during the remainder of the half. Sidney took a brace and the game tightened up right there. Most of the time the playing was in Sidney territory but at the critical times the visitors held and there were no scoring.

When the whistle blew ending the game Piqua had the ball a hand’s breath from Sidney’s line. Another effort and it would have been over for a sure touchdown.

The visitors played a good, clean game. There was no offensive or dirty play. Neither was there any unnecessary roughness. The home of the forward pass and Chamberlin’s spectacular run there were no special features.

Sidney seemed to have the heavier team but only in the second half were they able to make good use of their beef. Piqua’s eleven played an equally good game.

Outside of Piqua’s successful use and being the first real contest of the season, the play was not fast. Piqua tried no new plays or formations.
