After growing up in the blue and red of the Piqua Indians, Bryant Haines will be wearing a different uniform this fall. No, it's not because he is no longer a Piqua Indian at heart, it's because he has moved on to the next level of football.
Haines has committed to play football for Ball State this fall. Haines' decision to play at the college level only adds to the number of Piqua grads pursuing a dream. Haines is following in the footsteps of other Piqua grads to play college ball, including former teammates Quinn Pitcock and Drew McGraw. He also joins his older brother Tyler in the college ranks. Tyler is a linebacker at Ashland College.
At 6'5" and 212 lbs., Haines will likely focus on the defensive side of the ball instead of playing both ways as he did at Piqua. Although tall for a safety, Haines has deceptive 4.5 speed and is tough to throw over due to his hight. With the trend of larger defensive backs being recruited to combat the taller receivers, Haines physical attributes drew the interest of not only Ball State, but the Naval Academy.
As a senior, Haines had a career high 4 touchdown catches against rival Vandalia Butler. Among many of his other accomplishments include a selection as a North-South All Star, All-Ohio selection and a member of the FanFile All-Area Team.
