Thursday night was a busy night at the Piqua football practice facility and at Alexander Stadium/Purk Field. The Indians varsity squad wrapped up the Piqua Youth Football Camp and then battled some Piqua alumni members in a 7 on 7 passing scrimmage.
The game consisted of 20 plays for the Alumni offense and 20 plays for the Piqua Varsity offense. The Alumni started the game off with a nice drive but an interception brought it to a sudden halt. The Alumni quickly moved back down the field as they scored a touchdown on play nine of the ten play series.
Piqua moved to the offensive side of the ball and moved the ball downfield before the Alumni made a defensive stand near the 30 yard line. Piqua quarterback Andy Pearson looked sharp, completing over 50% of his passes during the ten play series.
The Alumni offense was back on the field with quarterback John Pearson finding his receivers for quality gains. The Indians defense held their own and stepped up to the challenge but the Alumni scored a late touchdown, with play number ten finding the end zone.
Piqua responded right back with Pearson finding wide receiver Zach Pack for the long touchdown pass. The Indians were on the move again and were at the ten yard line, threatening to score before the Alumni had great coverage and stopped the Indians from crossing the goal line with an incomplete pass on the tenth and final play of the game.
The Alumni team consisted of John Pearson, Jon Dolph, Jesse Swafford, Dominic Burnside, Tyler Haines, Ben Burnside and Austin Netzley.
